The United Nations has demanded a “comprehensive inquiry” into the death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old US-Turkish citizen, who was fatally shot during a demonstration in the West Bank, specifically in Beita near Nablus, on Friday. Eygi was reportedly killed by gunfire from Israeli security forces while participating in a regular protest against the expansion of Jewish settlements. In response, Israel’s military has acknowledged the incident, stating they are “investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a foreign national due to gunfire in the region.” A witness at the scene recounted to the BBC World Service’s Newshour that the sound of gunfire was distinct, with two shots heard during the protest. This event has sparked international concern and calls for accountability regarding the use of force during such demonstrations.
