A tragic shooting in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba has left a policewoman dead and 10 others injured, according to local authorities. The incident occurred at the city’s central bus station, where police believe it was a “suspected terror attack.”

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Shira Chaya Suslik, a sergeant with Israel’s Border Police. The gunman was shot and killed at the scene by responding officers.

Israel’s ambulance service has confirmed that medics are treating 10 injured individuals, with several suffering from gunshot wounds.

This devastating event in Beersheba has heightened concerns about security in Israel, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the attack. Keywords like “policewoman killed,” “Israel shooting,” and “suspected terror attack” reflect the ongoing tensions in the region and may lead to increased security measures.

One of the injured victims is in “moderate to serious” condition, while four others are in “moderate condition,” according to Israel’s ambulance service. The injured have been transported to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba for medical treatment.

Police confirmed that the gunman was “eliminated within seconds” by security forces present at the scene.

In response to the attack, Israel’s Transport Minister, Miri Regev, called for harsher measures, including the deportation of the families of “terrorists” from Israel. She stated on X, “The time has come for deterrent punishments to prevent further attacks on Israeli soil.”

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned the attack as “severe and despicable,” and also emphasized the need for a stronger stance against terrorism on X.

This attack follows last week’s tragic incident in Tel Aviv, where seven people were killed in a combined shooting and stabbing attack in the Jaffa area.

Israeli authorities have heightened security across the country, especially with the upcoming one-year anniversary of Hamas’s assault on southern Israel, which occurred on October 7 last year and triggered the ongoing Gaza conflict.
